Do Terrorists Come in Multiples of Three??
Earlier, we had pointed
to the latest Al-Queda #3 captured in Pakistan and the dubious
media claims. Inorder, to move away from the cliché
, we now use a different numbering scheme. Andrew Cochran writes
on the latest terrorist suspect Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum captured in Lahore 10 days ago by Pakistani authorities:
He is amongst the top nine terrorists in the country and was also involved in the planning of two failed assassination attempts on President Musharraf and was also involved in the planning of two failed assassination attempts on President Musharraf.
says a Pakistani official. Wait a sec. Ever heard of a Top 9 list before?? Anyway rhetoric aside, who the heck is this Mustafa?? The plain truth is that before attempting to assasinate Gen. Musharraf, he was actually on his payroll. Read on:
In handling logistical and financial matters for the Kashmiri mujahideen, on behalf of the ISI, Mustafa came into contact with army officers of Corps 10 who were involved in Kashmir operations.
Indeed, he was the point man for contact between bin Laden and the army in arranging for militants to be trained in Afghanistan.
In this way, Mustafa wore two hats, the one as chief coordinator of militant activities in Kashmir, the other as organizer of al-Qaeda's transfer of money and human resources from Pakistan to Afghanistan, and vice versa.
Now, this is all serious stuff and he must be really the Top 9 terrorist. The Americans would love to interrogate him in Gitmo as part of the Global Offence Against Terror (G.O.A.T). But alas, not so in this case:
no charges have been brought against him: he is expected to disappear into a "black hole" and quietly be forgotten.
This is because Mustafa, erstwhile head of al-Qaeda's Pakistani operations, has some tales to tell, but the authorities in Pakistan would rather they were not heard, especially by the Americans, even though Islamabad is a signed-up member in the "war on terror".
Here we have a guy who had acted hand in glove with the Pakistani Military/ISI in inflicting terror in Jammu and Kashmir and attacks against the Shiite minorities inside Pakistan. This terror suspect probably has much more intelligence value than some of the highly questionable Al-Queda No. 3 previously captured and handed over to the United States. Sadly, we will probably never hear from him again. To show his commitment to G.O.A.T., we sure will hear about new assasination attempts against the Generalissmo. And we promise to cover the event when it happens.
