Media Irony du jour
Presenting a sample of SMS/Internet polls conducted by
NDTV after each of the recent terror attacks: (For a complete list, vote in the current "POLLSPEAK" at the bottom-right of their homepage and then click on "View Previous Polls")
Q: Varanasi Blasts: Are the Varanasi blasts being politicised ? (screenshot)
Q: Ayodhya attack: Will the Ayodhya attack reignite communal passions? (screenshot)
Q: Delhi Blasts: Is Delhi complacent about security? (screenshot)
Q: Bangladesh Blasts: Are extremist groups gaining a foothold in Bangladesh? (screenshot)
Note that the Big Media asked the right questions about the Bangladesh and Delhi attacks. It is obvious that while they
lecture others big time about not politicizing the issue, they themselves hold different standards for different attacks. Rather than analyze the groups behind these attacks, the local political support they get and demanding concrete measures from the government for
improving physical security in public places - the media is gunning at the wrong issues. And after all this, they innocuously
wonder if they are under attack from the 'establishment'. Well, they are certainly
under attack from the
Army of Davids, well we don't have the size yet, but we are hopeful of getting there.
