Varanasi Attacks: Media Reaction A Day After
There is an old saying which goes "
Face is an index of the mind". We did a tour of various Internet news sites (Indian and international) to get a pulse of the media's reaction to Tuesday's terror attacks in Varanasi. We present the top stories presented by the media with screen capture images of the same as we found it. The screenshots were taken at approximately 0800 hours GMT on Wednesday, February the 8th (i.e., ~ 20 hours from the time of attack).

A depressing thing is how much "business as usual" these blasts seem to have become for desi media. Why is the Zaheera story getting more play than this blast?
It's saddening how little outrage we see in our media. Instead of saying "let's find who did this and kill them" or asking "why is the muslim community not policing its extremists better", what we see is "is this the police's fault for letting this happen?" or "are these crazy, unstable hindus now going to go kill poor muslims?" or "ooh, hey look, sonia's here!". wtf.
As depressing as it is for the Indian media to be so desensitized, what irks me even more is reporting outside India. Its bad enough that some of the newspapers here have a bias against India, but for them to trivialize the terrorist strike by putting the word in quotes is in my opinion plain insulting. A blast in the London Underground is obviously by terrorists, however blasts on a train in India are by "terrorists"! I cannot believe they can report this with such double standards.
Interesting info, mate. IHT generally picks up from Somini Sengupta, so I wouldnt be surprised if the same thing that went thru in the New York Times, also came through there.

And the less said about Sengupta the better.

if you take a hisotrical look at the international coverage for terrorist attacks on India, you'd notice that MOST (say 90%+) of them have double standards.
